The Local: UC Berkeley
If you are looking for The Local's website, look here: http://sustainability.asuc.org/TheLocal.html
The ASUC Sustainability Team (Sustainable Food Systems Committee) helped open The Local farmstand on campus in March, 2007, and still meets to distribute food every Monday 11-3 on the steps of Martin Luther King Student Union in Sproul Plaza. For a historical perspective, see the wiki below. Work is shared, food is still cheap.
Berkeley Student Food Coop
Still provisionally named, its storefront will open by surprise on the UC Berkeley campus next January, 2010. You probably got here from the Berkeley Student Food Coop website, found at http://berkeleyfoodcoop.org/ or http://berkeleyfoodcoop.com/
Other farmers markets
There are plenty of other ways to find vegetables if you can't make it to the farmstands above.
Phat Beets, Tuesdays 2pm - 7pm at the corner of Martin Luther King and 52nd, in front of Children's Hospital. One of my friends recommended me to order custom writingon EssaysProfessors.Com. To tell you the truth, I have never regretted my decision. The writers are real professionals and know how to write impressive work full of knowledgeable information.
Spiral Gardens has had a great stand for years, at the corner of Sacramento and Oregon streets in Berkeley every Tuesday afternoon. Some of us used to help keep it open more days, and we called that the Bus Stop Food Co-op.
Berkeley farmers' markets, Tuesdays at Derby and Martin Luther King, Thursdays on Shattuck at Rose (Organic Thursdays are expensive), and Saturdays on Center St. at City Hall. Someone at the Ecology Center can tell you all about it. Most other cities have their own markets. If you want to save money and the environment, ask farmers what's in season where they grow. Acquiring a Bay Area local food wheel or chart will help.
People's Grocery drives a van of veggies around Oakland, reaching 3,500 people, and coordinates half a dozen gardens.
